The honest review

Lenkerhof is purpose-designed for a specific family need: parents who want genuine spa recovery while children are genuinely cared for in an alpine setting. Most Swiss alpine resorts offer one or the other; the Lenkerhof is unusual in delivering both at high quality.

The spa complex is the hotel's strongest asset — 7 pools spanning indoor, outdoor, heated, and thermal, with an adults-only section that genuinely separates the recovery experience from the family zone. The children's spa offers adapted treatments (kids' massages, mud foot baths, aroma sessions) rather than just a playroom near the spa — unusual in Europe and genuinely valued by families who find traditional spa experiences exclude children entirely or include them awkwardly.

The Adelboden-Lenk ski area connection matters for winter: with 210km of prepared runs, it's Europe's 9th largest and meaningfully larger than most boutique Swiss resort ski areas. The ski school in Lenk takes children from age 3, and the Betelberg ski area (the Lenk side of the circuit) is lower-elevation and better for beginners than the Adelboden side.

In summer, the Simmental valley hiking is excellent from hotel grounds — trails to alp farmhouses with cheese-making visits are the family-specific program that contextualizes Switzerland for children beyond skiing. The supervised childcare from 3 months is the most unusual feature for US families: it allows parents of infants to actually use the spa, which is rarely offered elsewhere.
