The honest review

Meliá operates multiple, differently-branded resorts on the same Playa Bávaro stretch, which creates real booking confusion: Meliá Punta Cana Beach and The Level at Meliá are both adults-only, while Meliá Caribe Beach Resort is the family property. Anyone booking a Meliá in Punta Cana with kids needs to confirm they're on the Caribe Beach reservation specifically.

The Kidsdom kids' club runs an unusually wide age range — from 8 months through 14 years — with age-appropriate programming rather than a single one-size-fits-all room. A climbing wall and Mini Olympics activities skew more athletic than the arts-and-crafts model at some competitors. Splash Island Water Park adds waterfalls and slides on top of the resort's 10 pools.

The Family Junior Suite is the room to book for families of four: 42 sqm with a configurable bed setup (twin beds or king) plus bunk beds and a sofa-bed, genuinely built for kids rather than an adult room with a rollaway added. At 1,128 suites across 40 low-rise buildings with no elevators, expect real walking distances and stairs — a consideration for families with strollers or limited mobility. Thirteen restaurants and included non-motorized water sports (kayaks, windsurfers, snorkel gear) round out a resort that's solidly mid-tier on price relative to its Bavaro peers.
