The honest review

Pine Cliffs is the Algarve's most established 5-star resort and one of the Luxury Collection's better European properties for families. The setting is a sandstone clifftop above Praia da Falésia, the long unspoiled beach that runs east from Albufeira — accessed by a private glass elevator installed directly into the cliff face, which becomes one of the defining moments of a child's trip from the first morning.

The resort functions at a scale that allows parallel activities without crowding. The Annabel's Kids' Club handles ages 4–12 with structured daily programming (beach games, art, Portuguese language sessions, cooking). The aquapark (seasonal, typically May–September) provides the slide infrastructure that gives children something specific to work toward each day. Five pools across the property handle different user groups — the adults-only pool genuinely separates the experience when needed; the baby pool and kids' pool near the Annabel's facility are surveyed and appropriate.

Nine dining options prevent the menu fatigue that sets in after two nights at resorts with one or two restaurants. Yakuza is a legitimately good Asian restaurant that adults return to multiple nights; the beach bar at Praia da Falésia handles the casual seafood lunch that defines the Algarve experience.

Where it scores lower than Martinhal Sagres: the kids' programming, while good, doesn't cover infants (0–3) with the same depth, and the resort's scale (360 suites) means it can feel busy during August peak. But for families with elementary to teen-age children wanting a full-service luxury resort experience with beach, pool, kids' club, and golf in a genuinely beautiful setting, Pine Cliffs is the complete Algarve answer.
