The honest review

The Limelight Hotel Aspen sits squarely in downtown Aspen, a short walk from the gondola base and the pedestrian mall, which means you're never relying solely on a shuttle to access the town. That central location is one of its biggest advantages for families — you can send teenagers to explore independently while younger kids stay close to the hotel without anyone feeling cooped up.

What sets Limelight apart from most Aspen properties at this price point is how thoughtfully it integrates family life into the experience rather than treating kids as an afterthought. The free full hot breakfast buffet every morning — eggs, bacon, yogurt, fresh fruit, baked goods, granola, cereal — eliminates the daily scramble of feeding hungry kids before the lifts open. That alone is worth real money in Aspen, where even a diner breakfast runs $20+ per person. The kiddo lounge off the breakfast area is a genuine space: room to spread out, board games, video game consoles, so kids have somewhere to decompress during the inevitable afternoon weather hold or the post-ski hour while parents decompress with a drink.

The 126 rooms are not enormous, but they're well-designed with an uncommonly generous amount of storage for a mountain hotel — hooks, under-bed drawers, deep shelving — which matters when you're managing ski gear, boots, helmets, and four people's clothing. The pull-out sofa in select rooms allows families to avoid booking two separate rooms. Free cribs are available for infants.

The heated outdoor pool and hot tubs are a reliable afternoon draw for kids, and the complimentary cruiser bikes are a summer bonus for exploring Aspen's excellent bike paths. The free Limelight Shuttle runs back and forth to the Aspen Mountain base throughout the day, which reduces parking headaches significantly. A Family QT package adds a kite, kid-friendly snacks, s'mores supplies, a game, and a disposable camera — a small touch but one that signals the hotel actually thought about what families need rather than just checking a box.

The main trade-off is price: Limelight is not cheap, and during peak ski season you will pay for the location. But relative to other ski-adjacent Aspen hotels, it offers substantially more family value than most at the same star rating. Parents who've stayed here consistently note that the included breakfast and shuttle save $50–$100 per day in incidentals, which partially offsets the nightly rate.
