The honest review

The Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort, located inside Stone Mountain Park about 16 miles from downtown Atlanta, occupies a genuinely unique niche in the Georgia family travel market. This is not a luxury resort — the rooms are comfortable but not lavish, and the common areas have a dated conference-resort feel — but the surrounding park is a legitimate marvel, and that changes the calculus entirely for families.

Stone Mountain Park is Georgia's most visited attraction for good reason. The 3,200-acre property includes over 15 miles of walking and hiking trails, a Summit Skyride cable car to the top of the granite mountain, a Scenic Railroad, an Antebellum Plantation and Farmyard, mini golf, paddleboating, fishing, and a nightly laser show projected onto the face of the mountain (seasonal). Staying at the Evergreen means all of this is accessible without driving, and the resort's bike rentals let families cover more ground easily.

The resort's pool situation is a genuine strength: there are both heated indoor and outdoor pools, meaning a family trip in October or March is still workable even when Atlanta's weather is unpredictable. Both pools have adjacent hot tubs, and the indoor pool in particular gets heavy use from families with younger kids who want water time regardless of the weather. The children's play area adds another option when kids need to burn energy between park activities.

Rooms are spacious by Atlanta standards — they accommodate families of five or six, and connecting rooms are available for larger groups or multi-generational trips. Each room includes a flat-screen TV, microwave, and mini-fridge, which matters for families who want to keep snacks and drinks on hand without resorting to resort-price food service at every meal. A free breakfast buffet is included, which is a meaningful value add for a family of four.

The honest caveats: housekeeping consistency draws mixed reviews, with some guests reporting rooms that did not meet expectations on cleanliness. Noise can be an issue depending on your room's proximity to the conference facilities. This is a working conference resort that takes family leisure seriously but is not exclusively designed for it.

Pricing is a genuine strength. At $140–$220/night with breakfast included and park access integrated into your stay, the Evergreen offers strong overall value compared to downtown Atlanta hotels that charge similar rates without any of the surrounding natural infrastructure. For families who want something that feels like a self-contained resort escape — without the premium price tag of a Florida resort — this is one of the best options in the Atlanta metro.
