Il Cardo is the kind of 3-star independent resort that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't. The FamilyFactor scores are consistent across the board—nothing dips below 69—which means you're not trading one thing for another. Kid amenities and room fit are both solidly middle-of-the-road at 72, location is a shade better at 74, and safety clears 74 as well. For an independent property in the Chicago area, that's not nothing.

The pricing tier ($$) combined with a 69 on value suggests the resort knows what it can charge without being egregious, at least relative to what's around it. In the Chicago market, you're not paying for a brand name or a water park you'd brag about—you're paying for a place that works. Room fit at 72 tells you the suites and layouts are probably sensible for families, not cramped, but not luxurious either.

Where you'll feel the constraint is parent recovery, which bottoms out at 69. That's the honest tradeoff here: this resort is built for keeping kids entertained and safe, not for stealing away quiet time. If you're traveling with tweens or multi-gen groups, that's probably fine—you're not expecting to disappear to a spa.
