The honest review

Holiday Inn Resort brands are polarizing among adult travelers — they conjure chain-hotel predictability and the kind of pool that's always crowded at 11am. For families with kids under 12, that's not actually a downside. Other families are there. The kids programming runs. The pool is busy because kids love it. The staff is practiced at managing the family volume.

The Jekyll Island location flips the usual Holiday Inn Resort calculus. You're not in a strip-mall hotel parking lot — you're on a state park barrier island with direct Atlantic beach access, 20 miles of bike trails, a sea turtle center, and Driftwood Beach 3 miles away. The chain-hotel criticism melts when the setting is this good.

**Beach access is genuine.** The Holiday Inn Resort is beachfront — comparable proximity to the water as the Westin, at $150-200/night less for comparable room types in peak season. For families where the adult priority list is (1) be on the beach, (2) keep total trip cost under $3,500, this is the win.

**Multiple pools.** Unlike the Westin's single pool, the Holiday Inn Resort typically has a main pool and a separate kids pool area, which handles the family volume better during peak season. The tiki bar runs in summer. It gets busy. If you hate the pool-during-peak-hours vibe, this might not be your property. If your kids will spend 4 hours at the pool before you have to drag them to the beach, it's perfect.

**Kids Eat Free.** IHG runs the Kids Eat Free program at Holiday Inn Resorts — kids 12 and under eat free from the kids menu when a paying adult orders from the regular menu. Over a 5-night trip for 2 kids, this saves real money ($150-200 in restaurant meals). Small thing, but it adds up.

**Summer Waves Water Park.** The island's 11-acre water park with wave pool, slides, and lazy river is walking distance from the resort. Open roughly June through August. Admission is ~$25-30/person, family passes available. For kids who want water park action beyond the resort pool, this is 10 minutes away on foot or 2 minutes by car.

**Honest trade-offs vs. the Westin.** The Westin is a nicer room. The beds are better. The overall design quality is higher. If you've got a 13-year-old who's going to judge the interior design of her hotel room, book the Westin. For families with elementary-school kids who will spend 80% of their waking hours either at the beach or the pool, the Holiday Inn Resort's lower price and comparable beach access is the right call.

**Honest trade-offs vs. Jekyll Island Club.** The Club has more character and is roughly comparable in price. The Club is 2 miles from the beach. The Holiday Inn Resort is on the beach. For families with kids under 8, the beach proximity wins. For families with older kids who can bike 2 miles and appreciate the history, the Club is better.

**Who should book this.** Young families (kids under 12) prioritizing beach access and value. IHG One Rewards members looking for a solid redemption. Families doing a Jekyll Island first-trip to see if they want to return — this gives you a good baseline experience without overcommitting on cost.
