The honest review

Sunrise Mountain Village at Killington occupies a specific and well-earned niche: it is one of the few genuinely ski-in/ski-out condo communities in the area, and it happens to be exceptionally well-suited for families. The 172 units spread across the Outback at Fallsbrook area of Killington, with a private chairlift serving the community directly. In practical terms, that means kids in ski boots can step out the door of the condo and ski to the lift — no loading into a car, no shuffling across a crowded parking lot, no fighting for space in a shared base lodge.

The unit mix runs from 1-bedroom to 4-bedroom configurations, with most in the 2- and 3-bedroom range that families actually need. All units have full kitchens, which is one of the most underrated amenities in ski-trip travel — the ability to make breakfast in the condo before the mountain opens, and to come home to a hot meal rather than fight for a table at a crowded resort restaurant at 5 PM, fundamentally changes the texture of a family ski vacation. Wood-burning or gas fireplaces in the living rooms are standard. In-unit washers and dryers mean you can pack lighter and actually manage wet ski gear over a week-long trip without everything smelling by day four.

The Falls Brook Common sports center is the community amenity hub, and it covers the full range of what families need: indoor heated pool and indoor hot tub for year-round use, an outdoor heated pool that opens in warmer months, sauna, steam room, fitness center, tennis courts, pickleball, and basketball. During winter, the on-site Snowshoe Hut rents equipment, and there's an ice skating pond accessible directly from the community. The sports center quality is meaningfully better than what you'd typically find in a private condo community of this size.

The tradeoff worth naming honestly is the variable nature of condo rentals. Sunrise Village units are individually owned and managed through various rental agencies — Killington Rental Associates, Vacasa, The Killington Group, and others all have inventory here. Unit quality varies: some have been freshly renovated with modern finishes, others are stuck in the 1990s in terms of furnishings and kitchen equipment. Booking through a reputable local property manager and reading recent unit-specific reviews (not just community-level reviews) matters here. Ask specifically about the kitchen equipment and beds before committing.

The community is also a genuine four-season destination, not just a ski play. In warmer months, Sunrise Village sits within reach of Gifford Woods State Park's hiking trails, Killington's Adventure Center for mountain biking and ropes courses, and scenic chairlift rides. Families who return in multiple seasons report the summer visits are often their favorites — the Green Mountains are striking and the trails are far less crowded than a Colorado summer equivalent.

For families with multiple kids, a mix of ages, or grandparents in tow, Sunrise Village is often the highest-value option in Killington's lodging market: the ski-in/ski-out access, the full living space, and the kitchen make an expensive ski trip meaningfully more manageable.
