Lake George Village runs a genuinely old-school lake-town summer scene — mini-golf, arcades, a lakeside boardwalk, paddle-wheel boat cruises — and Fort William Henry Hotel puts a family right at the edge of it, on an 18-acre lakefront estate at the village's southern end. The hotel takes its name from the real Fort William Henry Museum next door, a reconstructed 1750s-era fort with reenactments and tours that gives history-minded families an easy add-on to the trip without a separate drive.

The pool setup covers both seasons: an indoor pool with sauna and whirlpool spa for cooler shoulder-season trips, plus a seasonal Olympic-size outdoor pool for summer. Private firepit rentals are a nice evening touch overlooking the lake and Adirondack mountains, and two on-site restaurants (The White Lion for breakfast, Lookout Cafe for dinner) mean families don't have to leave the property for every meal. At 0.9 miles from the village center, it's close enough to walk to the boardwalk and arcades but far enough to be quieter at night than a downtown motel.

Honest tradeoffs: multiple reviews flag the hotel as pricier than the value it delivers on standard rooms, so it's worth comparing against Lake George Village's other options before booking the base room tier — the lake-view rooms and suites are where the property earns its keep. This is a traditional hotel, not a resort with kids' club programming — the draw is the setting, the pools, and proximity to the village, not organized activities. For a family building a trip around Lake George Village itself rather than a self-contained resort experience, Fort William Henry's location is hard to beat.
