The honest review

Hyatt Place Page/Lake Powell is a 2019-era hotel in downtown Page, AZ, which makes it one of the newest and most consistently maintained properties in a destination where most lodging dates from the 1970s-90s. The contrast is immediate when you walk in — clean modern design, predictable Hyatt Place quality standards, and suite configurations that work well for families.

The practical case for Hyatt Place over Lake Powell Resort: price and room configuration. Hyatt Place suites run $50-80/night less than equivalent lake-view rooms at the resort, and the suite layout is notably better for families. The open-plan Hyatt Place suite gives parents a king bed behind a half-partition and kids their own sofa bed / sleeping area in the same room — more functional than two beds side by side in a standard hotel room. Families traveling with 3-4 kids often book two adjacent Hyatt Place rooms and find the total cost is still competitive with a single suite at the resort.

Included breakfast is meaningful at this destination. Page, AZ has limited breakfast options (a few diners, the resort's Rainbow Room which has inconsistent early-morning service during shoulder season). The Hyatt Place buffet breakfast — hot eggs, sausage, pastries, fruit, coffee — is solid and eliminates one daily logistics decision. For families doing early-morning Antelope Canyon tours (7am slot canyon tours are common and worth the early start), having breakfast at the hotel before departure is a practical win.

The pool is an outdoor heated pool, not a resort pool complex. It serves its purpose; kids can swim off energy after a day of hiking or boating, but don't expect a water park.

Location reality: Hyatt Place is in Page proper, 5 minutes by car from Wahweap Marina. You're not waking up to lake views. From certain higher-floor rooms there are canyon wall views, but it's a town hotel experience, not a resort-on-the-water experience. For families who are going to spend their days on the lake and at canyon tours and use the hotel primarily as a comfortable home base, this tradeoff is completely reasonable. For families who want to sit on a balcony watching the sun set over Lake Powell, Lake Powell Resort is the right call.

Antelope Canyon logistics note: Upper Antelope Canyon (the famous shaft-of-light slot canyon, owned by the Navajo Nation Antelope Canyon Navajo Tours) books out 3-6 weeks ahead in summer. Lower Antelope Canyon (Ken's Tours) has more availability but also books ahead. Book both as soon as your Page dates are confirmed. Neither Hyatt Place nor Lake Powell Resort can help you if you wait until you arrive.

Horseshoe Bend is 10-15 minutes from Hyatt Place; it's a 1.5-mile round-trip walk to one of the most photographed viewpoints in the American Southwest. Go early morning or sunset to avoid midday heat and crowds. With kids under 8, factor trail difficulty — it's unpaved, and the final section has a steep drop-off with no railing at the viewpoint. Worth it, but requires supervision.

Hyatt loyalty makes this a reasonable business-traveler pick as well — a common pattern is the parent who earns World of Hyatt points on work travel and converts them to family vacation nights here. The redemption rate is usually favorable compared to coastal properties.
