The honest review

The Loews Regency New York Hotel at 540 Park Avenue occupies one of the most civilized addresses in Manhattan — the intersection of Park and 61st Street, a block from Central Park and walking distance from Museum Mile on the Upper East Side. It is a 4-star property in the classic American luxury hotel mold: service-forward, Art Deco influenced, and genuinely comfortable rather than trendy.

For families, the defining feature is the Loews Loves Kids program. This is not the kind of program where a hotel stamps 'family friendly' on its brochure and then offers nothing but a pack of crayons at check-in. The Loews Regency provides age-appropriate welcome gifts, activity books, coloring materials, complimentary cribs, and baby bath kits on request. There is an on-call family concierge dedicated specifically to helping families navigate the city — booking theater tickets, arranging difficult dinner reservations, and suggesting age-appropriate programming. Board games and toys are available to borrow during your stay. The hotel can also arrange babysitting services through an outside vendor for parents who need an evening to themselves.

The room configuration options are among the best reasons to choose this property. Of the hotel's 379 rooms, a significant portion are designed as or can be configured as adjoining rooms, meaning families do not have to choose between cramming four people into one room or booking two separate non-connecting rooms on different floors. Suites include flat-screen TVs with streaming service access, mini kitchens with microwaves and refrigerators, dining areas, and — in the two-bedroom configurations — enough square footage to actually relax in the evenings rather than trip over luggage.

The hotel's dining offers children's menus with genuinely varied options, not just chicken fingers, which matters on a multi-night stay. Breakfast service is a particular strength, with families frequently calling it out as a highlight in reviews.

The Park Avenue location works very well for family logistics. Central Park's southern edge is two blocks away, putting the Central Park Zoo, the Wollman Rink (in season), and the park's many playgrounds within an easy walk. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a fifteen-minute walk north. Fifth Avenue shopping and the Rockefeller Center area are reachable on foot. The Lexington Avenue subway lines are a short walk east and provide access to the whole city.

The trade-off is price. The Loews Regency runs $350 to $700 per night depending on dates and room type, which is a real family budget commitment. But for multi-generational trips, special-occasion visits, or families who prioritize service and space over location novelty, it consistently earns its rate. The staff are widely praised for warmth and professionalism, the rooms are spacious by Manhattan standards, and the family program is the most earnest and well-executed in this price tier.
