The honest review

North Conway Grand Hotel has been the default family anchor point in the Mount Washington Valley for good reason. The property is large — 200 rooms — but the layout keeps it from feeling anonymous. The lobby features a soaring fireplace flanked by locally inspired artwork, and the check-in staff tends to be patient with families hauling ski bags, strollers, and overloaded luggage carts.

The pool situation is legitimately good for families. There is a year-round heated indoor pool, a seasonal outdoor pool with a sun deck, and a separate zero-entry kiddie splash section with interactive water features that toddlers absolutely love. Add a hot tub adults can actually use, and you have a credible aquatic setup. The water temperature in the indoor pool has drawn a few complaints in winter — some guests with young children note it can run cooler than hoped — worth asking at check-in if that matters to your family.

The kids' infrastructure on dry land is equally strong. The arcade sits near the indoor pool, which means parents can watch the pool while older kids drift over to the games. There is a dedicated movie room with leather sofas — movies run in the late afternoon and early evenings, which is a genuinely useful dead zone during family trips. The outdoor playground is solid for ages 2 to 12, with tunnel slides, swings, and climbing panels. The adjacent stone fire pit is popular on summer evenings.

Rooms are comfortable and recently renovated with mountain-themed New England decor and custom furniture. Standard rooms come with two queens and a sleeper sofa, which handles a family of four without anyone sleeping on the floor. One-bedroom suites sleep up to six and include a wet bar — useful if you want to keep snacks stocked and avoid the resort markup on everything. The hotel offers connecting room configurations, which is worth requesting when booking if you need toddler separation.

Breakfast is available on-site but not universally included, so check your rate tier. Kids under 12 eat free at the breakfast buffet when accompanied by an adult paying for the buffet — the do-it-yourself waffle station is reliably a hit. Dining options beyond breakfast are limited on property, but Settlers Green Outlets and the North Conway Village strip are steps away.

Location is the hotel's most underrated asset. Settlers Green is directly outside the door, but more usefully, Cranmore Mountain Resort is about a 10-minute drive, Story Land is 20 minutes, and Conway Scenic Railroad, miniature golf, and the Saco River tubing corridors are all within easy reach. The hotel is not secluded — it sits on the main White Mountain Highway — but for families who want to maximize activity throughput without car logistics, that centrality pays off.

For families seeking a turn-key North Conway experience with room-to-sleep, pools to burn energy, and activities within walking distance, the Grand delivers reliably.
