The honest review

Orange Beach, Alabama sits just west of Perdido Key and Gulf Shores, on the same stretch of white-quartz beach that runs from Pensacola to Gulf Shores. It's less famous than Destin but delivers the same beach quality at a meaningfully lower price point — and Perdido Beach Resort is the property that best captures that value proposition.

As the only full-service resort on the Alabama Gulf Coast (most competing inventory is condo rentals), Perdido stands out simply by existing as a proper hotel. You get a beachfront location, two pools (outdoor Gulf-front and indoor), full-service restaurants, and beach chair setup — the basic resort infrastructure that condo rentals don't provide. For families who want a managed beach experience without the logistical complexity of self-catering, that matters.

The location is also strategically good for families: Waterville USA waterpark is nearby, the Wharf entertainment district has restaurants and mini-golf, and the gulf waters in this stretch are calm enough for young kids to swim comfortably.

The honest tradeoff: Perdido Beach Resort is showing its age in places — the renovation cycle has been inconsistent and some room categories look dated relative to newer Florida competition. But the beach is the same beach, the price is 20-30% below comparable Destin options, and for families who prioritize Gulf-front resort format over luxury finishes, this consistently delivers.
