The honest review

Paradise Point occupies its own 44-acre island in Mission Bay, and the layout is the whole story for families. Instead of a tower with elevators, the resort is a village of single-story bungalow-style buildings spread across gardens and lagoons, ringed by about a mile of sandy bayfront beach. Kids can walk out the room door onto grass or sand, and the calm bay water is far more toddler-friendly than the open Pacific surf a few miles west.

The amenity inventory is genuinely deep for San Diego: five pools (one reserved for adults, which helps on the parent-recovery front), five tennis courts, a full spa, and a private marina that rents kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, sailboats, and Waverunners. The seasonal Island Adventure Club day camp gives kids ages 4-12 structured activities, and dive-in movie nights at the pool are an easy evening anchor. SeaWorld sits directly across Mission Bay — one of the shortest drives from any full resort in the city — and Belmont Park's roller coaster and the Pacific beaches are minutes away.

The honest tradeoffs: rooms are bungalow-style and most categories top out around 4 guests, so large families should look at the suite categories or plan on two rooms — this is not a bunk-bed-suite waterpark property. The island setting also means everything beyond the resort requires a car. And it's priced like the upscale resort it is; peak-summer rates land well above the Mission Bay midscale options like the Bahia or Catamaran.
