The honest review
The Residence Inn Arlington Capital View sits in Crystal City — the National Landing district about a mile from Reagan National Airport — and it stacks up more family-practical amenities per dollar than almost anything inside the District. Every unit is a suite with a full kitchen including a dishwasher; a hot breakfast buffet is free every morning; there's a free roundtrip shuttle to DCA; a free grocery-shopping service stocks the kitchen; and, crucially where the Homewood Suites downtown falls short, there's an indoor heated pool for the end-of-day swim that keeps kids bought into the whole trip.
The suite ladder runs studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom, and the two-bedroom units are the headline for larger families: separate rooms plus a living area, sleeping six or more in a single booking, at rates that commonly sit in the $109–159 range with breakfast included. Families of five or six comparing this against two connecting rooms at a downtown hotel will find the math isn't close.
The tradeoff is geography, and it's honest rather than fatal: you're in Arlington, not on the Mall. Getting to the Smithsonian side of the river means the Metro from the Crystal City area or a 10–15 minute drive, so this is a commute-in base rather than a walk-out-the-door one. The compensations are real — the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery are close, the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City covers rainy afternoons, and the airport shuttle plus one-mile DCA proximity makes fly-in logistics about as painless as a DC trip gets. Flight-path noise is the district's known quirk; rooms are well-sealed but light sleepers should note it.
The property shares its complex with the Renaissance Arlington Capital View, and the shared facilities skew the fitness and pool areas nicer than the Residence Inn badge implies. Who books this: fly-in families, families of 5+, and anyone optimizing total trip cost over location prestige. Who doesn't: families who want to walk out of the lobby onto the Mall — that convenience costs roughly double at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill.
