The best two-in-one beach on 30A: wide, dune-backed Gulf beach on one side, calm brackish Western Lake on the other, connected by a short boardwalk. Toddlers who won't go near Gulf waves will happily wade in the lake.
Watch out: Lot fills by mid-morning on summer weekends — arrive before 9:30am or plan a late-afternoon visit instead. No lifeguards; check the flag color before letting kids past knee-deep.

The original New Urbanist town — small enough that a stroller loop covers it in 20 minutes, but with enough Airstream food trucks, ice cream, and Sundog Books browsing to fill an evening. Good low-key first or last night on 30A.
Watch out: Parking is tight and mostly paid; plan to walk or bike in from a nearby rental rather than drive and circle. Restaurants get a wait after 6pm in peak season.

A flat, paved multi-use path running roughly the length of 30A, connecting Seaside, WaterColor, and Rosemary Beach. Renting bikes for a morning is the easiest way to see three towns without moving the car once.
Watch out: The trail is shared with golf carts and pedestrians and gets busy midday in summer — go early. Heat is real; bring more water than feels necessary.

Western Lake at Grayton Beach State Park is a rare coastal dune lake — calm, mostly freshwater-brackish, and a completely different paddle from open Gulf water. Good option when the Gulf is choppy or the kids just want flat water.
Watch out: Rental stands are limited to peak season and fair weather — call ahead rather than showing up expecting availability. The lake occasionally breaches to the Gulf, which changes salinity and current temporarily.

Live oaks dripping Spanish moss, a shaded riverside lawn, and a restored 1897 lumber-baron mansion — a genuinely relaxing stop when the beach heat gets to be too much. Mansion tours run on a set schedule and are short enough for younger attention spans.
Watch out: Mansion interior tours are guided and timed — check the schedule before driving over, since walk-up tours aren't guaranteed. Grounds are lovely but there's no beach or water play here.

Coastal dune lakes are rare freshwater-to-brackish lakes that sit right behind the dunes and occasionally connect to the Gulf. There are only about a dozen along the entire US coast, and several sit on 30A, including Western Lake at Grayton Beach.
Where do we park if we are not staying right on 30A?
Use the state park lots (Grayton Beach, Topsail Hill) or the county-managed beach accesses with paid lots — most neighborhood beach walkovers are for residents/renters of that specific development only.
Is 30A walkable without a car?
