Watch out: Check the flag warning system before letting kids past knee-deep — rip currents are a real Gulf Shores hazard, not a formality. Summer midday sand gets hot enough to need water shoes.

Watch out: It's a 30–40 minute drive from central Gulf Shores with limited shade once you're inside the fort — bring water and go earlier in the day. Not much interests toddlers here beyond running around the grounds.
