Watch out: Limited shade on the island itself. The ferry departs on a set schedule, so plan the rest of the day around it. Unpaved paths are not stroller-friendly.

Watch out: Reservation required — no walk-ins, and tours sell out days ahead in season. Expect an educational tone rather than hands-on animal contact; this is a hospital, not a petting exhibit.
