San Antonio family days: the Alamo (short, and do it early), a River Walk barge, San Antonio Zoo or the Botanical Garden, and then pick one park — SeaWorld or Six Flags Fiesta Texas — not both in 48 hours. The River Walk at kid bedtime is a stroll, not a bar crawl, if you stay on the museum stretch.

You cannot skip it, so do it well: opening hour, a short official tour or audio, then leave. Kids 8+ can handle the story if you do not lecture for 40 minutes in the sun. Pair with a barge, not with a park.
Watch out: It is smaller than the movie in kids' heads. Summer midday is a bad plan. Security lines. The surrounding souvenir strip will eat an hour if you let it.

The downtown activity that works. You sit in the shade of the cypress, you get the story, you get off. Morning boats beat dinner boats with little kids. This is the San Antonio photo that is not the Alamo chapel.
Watch out: Buy timed tickets in peak season. It is not a long cruise — set expectations. Evening boats feel more adult. Strollers park on the dock, not on the barge.

A real zoo in a limestone quarry, 10 minutes from downtown. Finishable, shaded in spots, and a better little-kid day than either theme park. The skyride / train add-ons are optional, not required.
Watch out: Summer heat is the constraint — arrive at open. Parking is a separate fee. Do not stack this with SeaWorld. Bring water bottles; fountain lines exist.

The marine-park day with enough rides to hold tweens. If your kids want orcas/dolphins + water, this is the park. It is a drive from the River Walk — treat it as a full dedicated day, not a downtown add-on.
Watch out: Animal-show questions from older kids are fair; answer them honestly. Summer is brutal; winter hours shrink. Parking + food will push a family of 4 well past the ticket price. Height lines split groups.

The quarry park with shows and serious coasters. Better teen day than SeaWorld. The setting (limestone walls) is the memorable part for kids who do not need marine animals.
Watch out: This is a coaster park. Little-kid inventory exists but is not why people buy a full-price ticket. Summer heat + queues. One park per trip is the sane default.

SeaWorld for ages 5–10 and water-show kids. Fiesta Texas for ages 10+ who want coasters. Doing both in one long weekend is a grind in July.
How long do we need at the Alamo?
Sixty to ninety minutes. It is not a half-day site. Do it early and go to the river.
Is the River Walk OK with kids at night?
The museum / Hilton stretch at 6–7pm is fine. The louder restaurant bends later at night are a different walk. Eat early.
