The JW Marriott Guanacaste sits on Playa Mansita inside Hacienda Pinilla, a large gated resort-residential community about 30 minutes south of Tamarindo. That gate is both the appeal and the catch: the beach is calm and uncrowded because almost nobody outside the resort can reach it, but families hoping to explore beyond the property should know they're genuinely isolated — the nearest town is a real drive away, not a walk.

On the family side, the resort does the basics well: a kids' club with daily programming, a separate games room, and a children's recreation room give parents real break time, and children under 12 staying free on existing bedding is an actual discount, not a marketing line. Six restaurants keep a week of dinners from repeating, and the resort's horseback riding and bike trails give families an alternative to pool time that a lot of Guanacaste all-inclusives don't offer.

Room fit is the resort's weaker spot — Deluxe Rooms and Junior Suites are comfortable but don't include a dedicated multi-room family category the way some competitors do, so larger families will want to book two connecting rooms rather than expect a suite built for five or six. Pricing runs high-season into the $400–500 range, similar territory to the Westin Reserva Conchal, though the free-kids-under-12 policy narrows the real gap for families traveling with younger children.

This is a strong choice for families who want a genuinely private beach and don't mind staying inside the resort bubble for the whole trip. Families who want to explore towns, restaurants, or nightlife outside the property should look at Tamarindo-proper hotels instead.
