The Resort at Lake of the Ozarks — the former Lodge at Port Arrowhead, rebranded — sells location first. Sitting right by Bagnell Dam, you are minutes from the strip, mini golf, go-karts, and the dam itself, which cuts the driving that defines most Lake of the Ozarks trips.

For kids the cover is solid: an indoor pool that runs year-round, seasonal outdoor pools, a playground, a game room, on-site bowling, and poolside movies and bingo in season. The breakfast buffet where kids 12 and under eat free is real money back every morning of a family stay. Rooms are standard issue with connecting-room options, and lake-view rooms are available.

The honest trade-offs: reviews are mixed on room condition (8.2/10 on Hotels.com), there is a $16 nightly destination fee on top of the rate, and the on-site nightclub is a genuine factor — light sleepers should request a room away from it. If room quality is your priority or you want a secluded lake setting, look at the cabin resorts instead. For families who plan to be out at the attractions all day and want kid-friendly basics at the base camp, it works.
