The honest review
The DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Myrtle Beach Oceanfront is the rebrand of the long-running Springmaid Beach Resort, following a 12-month, property-wide renovation centered on a new 20,000-square-foot main building (lobby, ocean-view restaurant and lounge, and an outdoor entertainment terrace). At 214 rooms across 30 acres on the south end of Ocean Boulevard, right next to Myrtle Beach State Park, it sits apart from the dense central tourist strip — quieter, with more breathing room, but a longer drive to the Boardwalk and SkyWheel.
The water amenities are genuinely built for families without going full waterpark: two indoor pools plus outdoor pools, a lazy river with floats, water slides, and a separate adults-only pool for parents who want a break. The property's own pier access is the real differentiator — the daily resort charge bundles a pier walking and fishing pass, fishing pole rental, mini golf, and beach towels, so a family doesn't need to nickel-and-dime each activity separately.
Rooms are standard hotel rooms with private balconies, mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker rather than full kitchens — a real trade-off against condo-style Myrtle Beach competitors like Dunes Village or Caribbean Resort & Villas, where a family can cook and cut the restaurant bill. One-bedroom and two-room suites with a sofa sleeper and separate living area help for families needing more space, but this is a hotel-room resort, not a self-catering one.
The honest caution: guest reviews are mixed for a 4-star property (3.7/5 across recent Tripadvisor reviews), with recurring complaints about cleanliness and maintenance in some rooms, a cramped and dated parking garage, and self-parking running an extra $19/day on top of the daily resort charge. Families booking here should budget for those add-ons up front and set expectations that the room product itself is standard-hotel rather than renovation-fresh throughout.
