The honest review

Castle in the Sand has been a fixture at 3701 Atlantic Avenue for decades, and it's earned its reputation not through corporate polish but through a genuine, hands-on commitment to kids. The free daily activities program is what separates this hotel from the dozens of other mid-range oceanfront properties on the strip. Every day in summer, the hotel runs themed programming: the Mermaid Show brings costumed performers to the beach; Pirate Day involves costumes, storytelling, and an actual treasure hunt; and movie nights on-site come with free popcorn and candy. These aren't passive, watch-a-cartoon activities — they're interactive and they genuinely land with the 3-to-10 crowd in a way that parents notice immediately when their kids start asking when they get to come back.

The Olympic-size outdoor pool with a diving board sits steps from the beach and draws heavy use from families who want more controlled water play than the Atlantic provides. Sand volleyball is available for older kids and adults. The beach itself is directly accessible — no road to cross, no walk through a parking garage — which is a meaningful logistical advantage when you're managing small children, beach gear, and sunscreen reapplication schedules.

The property has been growing: Castle in the Sand has absorbed a number of formerly privately owned condo units in adjacent buildings, which means the room inventory is more varied than a typical hotel. Some rooms are in the older main building with standard hotel finishes; others are in the acquired condo towers and feel more spacious. The tradeoff is some inconsistency in finish quality across the property, so it's worth paying attention to room category when booking rather than assuming all rooms are equivalent.

Dining is handled primarily by the Beach House restaurant and the Coconuts Beach Bar, an open-air beachfront patio that serves breakfast and lunch with unobstructed ocean views. It's casual, appropriate for sand-covered families, and good enough for the price point — not a dining destination, but functional and pleasant.

Caveats worth naming: rooms in the older building sections run small by modern standards, and the property doesn't have the organized kids'-club infrastructure of larger resort hotels. The programming relies on scheduled shows rather than drop-off childcare. Nightly rates in July and August can run $300–$380 for oceanfront rooms, which is real money for the room quality you receive. But if your family's priority is a beach-facing hotel where kids are actively entertained without you spending extra on attractions, Castle in the Sand consistently delivers a disproportionate bang for the programming dollar.
