The honest review
Port Orleans Riverside is what happens when Disney designs a resort for families instead of at a resort where families happen to stay. The kid-amenities score of 92 tells you Disney's done the heavy lifting—pools, character sightings, activity programming—so you don't have to hunt for things to do. That matters when you've got multiple ages in tow and nobody's arguing about boredom on day two.
The tradeoff is obvious: you're in a controlled environment, not actually in New Orleans. The resort's theming is charming and nostalgia-soaked, but it's Disney's version of New Orleans, which is cleaner and safer than the real thing. If you wanted your kids wandering Bourbon Street or exploring authentic French Quarter restaurants, pick a different city. But if you want a 4-star property where everything from breakfast to bedtime is orchestrated around families—and you're okay with the $$$ price tag—the FamilyFactor breakdown suggests this one's legitimately solid across the board. Parent-recovery at 85 is respectable; you won't get a lot of uninterrupted downtime, but the resort's designed so you're not constantly problem-solving.
The real question is whether Disney's premium justifies the cost in the New Orleans area. It does if you're using this as a home base for park visits and want zero logistical friction. It doesn't if you want authentic travel and only picked this resort because the name sounds good. Know which one you are before you book.
