The honest review
The Peaks Resort & Spa sits at the heart of Mountain Village with true ski-in/ski-out access, and its defining edge for families is the amenity stack rather than the room product. At 161 rooms and suites, the property is large by Telluride standards, and the bones of the experience are built around the 42,000-square-foot spa and recreation complex — one of the largest resort spa facilities in all of Colorado.
For families, the marquee draw is the indoor/outdoor pool setup. The two-story waterslide that empties into the heated indoor/outdoor pool is the kind of thing kids talk about for years. Adjacent to it is a 75-foot lap pool for parents who want actual exercise, and multiple hot tubs nearby for everyone else. The 1,600-square-foot game room keeps tweens and teens occupied when they're not on the mountain, and an indoor rock climbing wall adds another kid-pleasing option on off days.
Ski-in/ski-out convenience matters enormously with children, and The Peaks delivers it cleanly — gear storage and a ski valet make the daily departure onto the slopes dramatically less painful than properties that require shuttle hops. In summer the resort pivots to golf (an 18-hole course) and mountain hiking, so the property earns its keep year-round rather than being purely a winter play.
Rooms are comfortable but not remarkable. Floor-to-ceiling windows and mountain view balconies are standard, which goes a long way in a setting this dramatic. Families needing genuine space will want to book one of the multi-bedroom condo units rather than a standard guest room. Dining on-site is convenient and covers breakfast, but some guests note the food quality is inconsistent and pricing is steep even by resort standards.
The honest caveats: a daily resort fee (roughly $25) does not include valet parking, so the true cost per night runs higher than the base rate suggests. Service quality has been uneven in recent reviews — some guests report excellent attentiveness, others note inexperienced staff during peak periods. The rooms themselves, while comfortable, can feel dated relative to newer Mountain Village properties.
For families who want maximum convenience, don't want to leave the property to keep kids entertained, and prize ski-in/ski-out access above hotel polish, The Peaks is the clearest choice in Telluride. It is genuinely the most family-utilitarian property in the market, even if it is not the most refined.
