The honest review

Ocean Shores is built on a peninsula with an unusual network of man-made canals alongside the Pacific Ocean beach — and several of the best VRBO rentals sit directly on those canals with dock access for crabbing, clamming, and paddling. For families, this adds a second activity layer (canal exploration) to the primary beach attraction.

The rental inventory skews toward 3–4 bedroom houses with full kitchens, which is appropriate for the destination: Ocean Shores has limited dining options and the coastal Pacific Northwest weather pattern (cool even in July, frequent morning fog) makes having your own kitchen and a warm indoor space more valuable than at a sun-drenched resort destination.

Peak season (July–August) and holiday weekends fill up; book 6–8 weeks out for summer. Spring and fall are underrated on the Washington coast — dramatic surf, nearly empty beaches, and rental prices 30–40% lower than peak summer.
