The honest review

The Polynesian Resort has been operating on Ocean Shores' beachfront since the 1960s, and it makes no particular effort to disguise this. The architecture is Tiki-influenced Pacific lodge, the indoor pool is the centerpiece rather than an afterthought, and the vibe is multigenerational repeat visitors rather than first-time luxury travelers. This is accurate to what Ocean Shores delivers and why it has worked for Washington families for decades.

The beach is the draw. Ocean Shores sits on a peninsula at the southern end of the Grays Harbor coast, and the Pacific here is wide, hard-packed at low tide, and legal for vehicles and horses — which means ATV rentals and horseback beach rides are available from vendors in town, kite flying is constant, and in-season razor clam digging is a genuine activity rather than a photo-op. The surf is cold and rough (this is the Pacific, not the Gulf), but it's appropriate for wade-and-wave-dodge play for elementary-age kids with supervision. Teenagers who want to bodysurf need a wetsuit.

The indoor heated pool is the practical differentiator from other Ocean Shores properties. The Pacific Northwest coast is beautiful in every season, but reliably warm enough for sustained outdoor water play only in July and August. The Polynesian's pool means a March spring break or October fall trip is still viable — the kids have the warm water option, the parents walk the beach in wind layers and drink coffee. This is how most repeat visits actually work.

The rooms are clean and functional rather than renovated. Suite kitchenettes are worth booking if you're staying more than two nights — breakfast and lunch in-room cuts daily spend substantially in a beach town with limited affordable restaurant options. The game room with arcade is predictably the highlight for children ages 7–12 on rainy afternoons.
