The honest review

The Bayerischer Hof's appeal for families is almost entirely positional: it occupies a Munich city-center location that puts the Glockenspiel carillon (Marienplatz, 5 min walk), the Deutsches Museum (world's largest science museum, 15 min walk), and the Viktualienmarkt food market within walking distance, while Neuschwanstein Castle — the photograph most US families associate with Europe — is a 1.5-hour drive or organized day trip. No other Munich hotel competes on location.

The hotel itself is an old-school grand hotel: full marble-and-chandelier lobby, multiple restaurants, rooftop spa with mountain views on clear days (the Alps on the horizon, 60km south). For families doing a Munich base camp for Bavaria — Neuschwanstein Tuesday, Dachau Memorial Wednesday, Deutsches Museum all day Thursday — the walking logistics are genuinely superior to staying in the suburbs or near the main train station.

The kid amenity score of 70 reflects that this is a city hotel, not a resort: no water park, no kids' club, no programming. The Deutsches Museum's interactive science exhibits do more for children 8+ than most resort kids' clubs. But families with young children who want a resort-style experience should look at Schloss Elmau or Zugspitz Resort instead — this is the right choice for itinerary-focused families who will be out exploring daily.
